Greg is a programmer and a collector of sculls with a love for the mountains. He’s now happily working and living in Johannesburg but still craves the Cape Town mountains.
Greg needed new profile pictures but was nervous that he won’t like any of them. He was surprisingly comfortable in front of the camera and was very happy with all of the images.
Rosa Zimmerman is a Therapeutic Counselor and Life Coach. I arrived at her beautiful brightly lit home in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town and we hit it of immediately. Rosa is a caring confident woman that still showed a little bit of discomfort when I turned the cameraher way. We quickly got rid of that and as the conversation started flowing, the camera became less and less and object of distraction.
Rosa was truly beautiful inside and out with a giving, caring soul. It was a pleasure to meet her and have the opportunity to capture her essence.
I had the pleasure to capture Janel Jody-Ann Speelman again. Janel is a very talented Opera Singer represented by Samantha Bernadi.
I always find it very intriguing to capture actors or people that are used to stage. Janel is a friendly sweet person that come across as very humble and maybe even tad shy, but when the camera is turned on her she turns into an absolute diva.
Janel is beautiful inside and out and shines in front of the camera, looking forward to see how she shines on stage!
Keaton Manwaring is an Opera Singer and a singing teacher at Constantia Waldorf.
Keaton contacted me as he needed some profile portraits done. He did warn me that he is very uncomfortable in front of the camera but I know that any man that lives on the stage will quickly get use to the lights.
It was such a pleasure to capture him in my studio, he was friendly professional and warmed up to the camera in no time!

She lives in Cape Town with her partner and their three children.
Alina asked me to take some portraits for her new website and her new business. As I child of the earth she is in her element if she can be in the forest, ocean or mountain. We decided to capture her at her favourite spot in Newlands Forest. She assured me that the light hits that spot and we headed out to see how the sunrise plays through the leaves.
It was a beautiful morning and the light was perfect. Alina was in her happy place so extremely comfortable in front of the camera while explaining her healing process.
Alina has a deep passion and love for nature, investing large amounts of her time tapping into the powerful forces of the mountains and wild Atlantic Ocean. Recently Alina has embarked on a powerful journey taking on the responsibillity of fascilitating the ancient healing art of Kambo, Sananga and Rapé. Nicki just started her own venture after getting tired of the corporate scene. With a psychology background she is pursuing her passion of helping people through life couching and story telling. She is also a make-up artist, I multi talented beautiful woman.
I was welcomed into her beautiful apartment in Sea Point and was introduced to her husband, Jonathan and Bonnie her cat. We spent some time talking about her business and I was delighted to see the beautiful light spilling over her gorgeous smile. Such a warm welcoming energy is always a pleasure to capture.
“As I started out with my new business ventures I realised very quickly that I would need some professional headshots for my business collateral. I didn’t want them to look ‘corporate’ as a large part of what I do requires people to buy into ‘me’ as part of the product. I really needed more natural, professional shots in a more relaxed setting that still captured who I really am on a personal level. I was recommended Marike from a connection who had had a great experience with her and found her to be excellent. Marike is very personable and easy to be around, she makes you feel at ease and very natural very quickly. Marike managed the session as if it were a conversation with a friend and before you realise it you don’t even notice the role the camera plays. The end results are exactly what I wanted. Beautiful photography that looks relaxed and captures exactly who I am. I cannot recommend her enough.”

Stephan van der Merwe is a business coach with ActionCOACH. Stephan has a passion for helping small to medium sized businesses grow and make them more profitable.
I wanted to capture Stephan with natural light as we were looking for a friendly, approachable but professional look. So walking through the CBD, looking for the perfect light on a cloudy day we spoke a little bit of business and after only a short conversation I already had loads of ideas to take my business to another level.
Was great working with Marike! She made me feel at ease in front of the camera and the photos told exactly the story what I wanted them to tell. Thank you, Marike!
Kathryn Rossiter from Becoming you asked me to take some portraits for her online profile. As a lifestyle blogger the aim was to capture her lifestyle as a business woman and blogger through portraiture.
I arrived at her home in Kirstenhof and was treated to a cup of Rooibos. Her house is a photographers dream as there is soft light spilling from all sides.
As always we started chatting, having tea where she had to cope with me snapping away while telling me a story as the light was just perfect. Slowly the daunting Canon became part of our conversation and she became more comfortable with each shot.
Kathryn is a perfect example of how beautiful people become when they start letting their guard down. We moved into her favourite 'office' and again I was welcomed by some amazing light, accompanied by delicious coffee.
Thanks for sharing thoughts and allowing me to capture you.
I've now done 2 photo shoots with Marike - one personal branding photo shoot and one extended family photo shoot. At both shoots Marike was able to capture the essence of what I was looking for. Whether it was helping me feel relaxed in front of the camera, or getting a large group to co-operate! I love the easy, natural way she captures people and really recommend Marike for anyone looking for beautiful photos to showcase their personal brand.

I approached Kerry as I found her absolutely beautiful. She possesses a mature, natural beauty which she carries with subtle elegance. It is as if she doesn't know how beautiful she is.
I also offered to grab an image of her and her two beautiful girls, Carly and Erin. When I met the girls I knew a couple of portraits must be taken of these two as well.
The three woman were very comfortable in each others space and it was beautiful to see the relationship between mom, daughters and sisters. There was continuous support and encouragement.
Thanks girls. Even though you were shy of the camera, you allowed me to 'see' and capture your beauty inside and out.
Alida is an accountant and polo enthusiast who makes her own skin products. I've known Alida for years, losing contact, catching up again, but continuously in admiration of her positive heart, strong will and drive. So when she asked me to do her portraits I felt honoured because I know how shy she is, I understood what a big step this was for her.
And was I surprised! Alida still had the initial discomfort when you walk into a studio with lights and backdrops and big camera's, but as she stepped in front of the camera, a confident, calm Alida looked back at me through the lens.
Thanks for the opportunity, Lida, my admiration has grown!

I met Dylan at his office in Cape Town. The beautiful view of the city took my breath away, convincing me to make use of that particular view for one of his portraits! He was only to happy to work with me to get the perfect light without reflection paired with the perfect view.
Dylan was at ease from the word go, making jokes while we go and just making my job an absolute pleasure. Thanks Dylan!
“I have had the most amazing portraits taken by Marike Herselman Photography, you will not only be happy with the images by also with her service and value. I have recommended Marike to my clients who also only had positive experiences.”

A tall man walked into the studio two shirts a jacket and a charming smile. Before I tuned the the camera on Theo, he first needed to explain exactly what field of Psychology he specialises, as I found this fascinating. He’s slogan actually explains explains his mission well:
“Learn skills to deal with an ever-changing world and bring harmony to a changing workplace”
Theo was a pleasure to photograph as he seemed very comfortable in his skin and was able to portray the confidence required with a touch of warmth.

Raven Swart, I fell in love with the name before I met the man! As an actor Raven arrived oozing confidence. It is amazing to work with actors as they have such a good understanding of what is required of them and Raven was the same, being able to give me the perfect look on one or two words.
Raven is an actor represented by Samantha Bernadi Artist Management, he has a wide range of skills and a man of many accents. He has supporting rolls in South African Film productions and features in a couple of music videos under his brown belt in Goju-Kai style Karate.
One thing that I love about my job is the fact that I can just walk over to people, tell them they’re pretty and I would like to photograph them. I get an immediate positive reaction and a number…BOOM!
Tomson was one of those people. He was the barman in Bueno Vista Social Club in Long street so I asked him to pop into my studio for some pictures. As I expected he looked great on pictures as well as a beautiful personality that was shining through.
Nicholas is a professional long distance athlete sponsored by Adidas working at the Sweatshop in Claremont.
Nicholas approached me for some new portraits and action shots for his running profile. We decided we want to shoot on top of Table Mountain at sunrise, which means a very early start in the dark. He showed me a new route that I didn’t know and the sunrise made it work the early cold morning.
